With the New Year approaching, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on 2016 and what we've accomplished at Lineagewear. 2016 was a CUH-RAZY year for politics, celebrity deaths, and for many of our lives in general. (Hello, year of the Monkey!) It was certainly a busy year for us too. Did we accomplish everything we set out to this year? Let's take a look at last year's goals.
1. Switch to custom prints, standardized fabric sourcing
Our indiegogo campaign raised over $24,000 this spring! This helped fund our 2016 collection, which was all custom prints on single source fabric. This cut down on annoying fit issues- no more worrying whether a print runs small or not!
In 2017, we plan to release a brand new line of custom designs, as well as bring back a few of your most requested favorites. Here's a sneak peek of what to expect!
2. Continue our vision of sustainability
Nearly everything at Lineage is recycled. We produce approximately 1 bag of garbage per month. (Seriously!) ALL of our cardboard and plastic bags are recycled! Our production facilities are all within a 20 mile radius- very little driving is needed. All of our mailers are recyclable, and we began transitioning over to 88% recycled mailers. This year our goal is to use only recycled mailers!
3. Invest in inventory
In 2015, we really struggled to keep up with demand. This year, we've managed to double our inventory. We've expanded our size range to include 4X and 5X. In addition, we've released some new products: peacock shorties, tanks, maternity leggings, and offered dozens of "print on demand" tops and accessories. These on demand services allowed us to transform from a leggings boutique into a completely fleshed out brand. (Bonus- our on demand items are GREAT for raising money for charity!)
We still sometimes see long wait times for restock. Sometimes that is due to factors beyond our control. However, it'll be at the top of our priority list for 2017.
4. Move locations
Our goal for 2016 was to find an office/retail space. We've been on the hunt for that special spot, but it has of yet proven elusive. We will continue to look for the perfect location next year, and plan on partnering with local yoga studios for trunk shows.
5. Beat our previous year's total charity contribution of $21,000
It's hard to top such a lofty goal. Luckily, with charity, even if you don't beat your goal, you still win. This year's cash and clothing donations have brought our total contributions to over $28,000! In addition, part of our Indiegogo rewards were five new charities chosen for our Peacock charity program.
For 2017, we will be choosing another five charities to support with our Peacock charity program.
6. Wholesale Program
We've had requests for a wholesale program since we started! We've done a couple of small orders in the past, but we weren't really feeling confident in having a program without having the inventory to back it up. This summer, we tested out an affiliate program in place of a wholesale program... It failed miserably! LOL.
After that, we decided to really dig in and figure out a way to offer easy to order wholesale. We can now proudly say that our wholesale program is currently in beta. You can download an application here.
Goals for 2017
Next year is all about focus. We will be tightening our focus on marketing, branding, and inventory. We now have three years of experience to see what's worked, what hasn't, and where we can improve.
In addition to releasing new custom prints, switching over to all recycled mailers, and supporting a new set of charities for our peacock charity program, we will be bringing back our classic peacock prints. We've had overwhelming feedback from you saying how much you loved those prints, so it seemed foolish not to. You can pre-order those now until January 7th here!
We are also looking to bring back a couple other classic prints, but on our new and improved, double sided fabric!
Unfortunately, this means that we are going to have to say goodbye to most of our babies and kids leggings. When we dug into the data, we realized that we are actually losing money on these items. We are exploring the possibility of just keeping one or two styles of kids leggings, such as our blue peacock. Which prints would you like to see in kids sizes? Leave us a comment and let us know!
So that's 2016 in a nutshell. All of us at Lineage thank you for another amazing year, and we wish you and yours a safe, healthy, and happy 2017!
